Executing Seamless Human Handoffs in Autonomous Support

The transition from automated resolution to human intervention is the most critical juncture in AI support workflows. Discover our methodology for capturing intent and escalating context securely.

Executing Seamless Human Handoffs in Autonomous Support

No matter how comprehensive your knowledge base is, edge cases are inevitable. High-value enterprise clients, complex technical troubleshooting, or emotionally charged interactions require human empathy and nuanced judgment.

The Handoff Threshold

A seamless handoff occurs when the AI agent recognizes its limitations and transitions the user to a human operator without causing friction. We track three primary triggers for escalation:

  1. Explicit Request: The user explicitly types phrases like "speak to a human" or "customer service".
  2. Knowledge Boundary: The user's intent falls completely outside the vectorized training data.
  3. Sentiment Threshold: The system detects high frustration or negative sentiment over consecutive messages.

Context is King

The worst experience for a user is being handed off to a human only to be asked, "How can I help you today?" after they have already explained their issue to the AI.

When Eerina executes a handoff, the complete session transcript, alongside the extracted intent and user metadata, is instantly persisted to the `chat_sessions` table and flagged in the Live Inbox. When a human agent clicks "Resolve", they already possess the entire context. The transition is instantaneous, secure, and entirely frictionless.
